Exporting: Expanding on the previous issue.I'd like to define a bunch of different views I could export as I work on the model, but didn't see a way to do this without creating each export manually. I'd prefer to define section plans, like in sketchup, where I know for sure what the view is going to be of. However, I found it very difficult to use.

  • 2D Elevation View Difficult to Use: I was looking forward to trying this feature after paying for the Pro version.
  • This is cumbersome and is handled much better in other software. If I have two segments that make up the same straight wall, I can't easily align them both back to 90, etc. If you have a wall segment that somehow is not at 90 degrees, it is difficult to get it back to 90. It seems there is no snapping for adjusting walls to be straight or perpendicular and I had to zoom way in and eyeball it in many cases.
  • Aligning Wall Segments: I found adjusting walls and keeping them aligned to be much more difficult than pretty much every other program I tried.

  • I really think given the sketchup import/export, they should consider an option that uses the same keyboard/mouse shortcuts as sketchup.
  • For example, a mouse scroll wheel press down is typically used to look around, aka "orbit".
  • It also doesn't help that each time I change the target floor/level of the house that the 3d view moves, often zoomed in on an area that is unhelpful. I don't know what it is, but LiveHome3d is not intuitive to navigate around with keyboard/mouse. I also had good luck in Planner 5d moving around. I also use Fusion 360 quite a bit and have no problem there.
  • 3D Camera Movement and Behavior: I find navigating around in Sketchup in 3d really intuitive.
  • There appears to be a built-in quick setting for different wall thicknesses/styles, but I didn't see a way to easily define my own, then mark each wall as one of my own custom styles. I didn't see a way to easily apply consistent styles across an entire floor of the house.
  • Applying Consistent "Styles": After building out my floor plan a bit, I realized I needed to go back through and fix wall widths and wall trim sizes/colors.
  • For example, if I'm painting my house or replacing trim around all my windows, etc, I'd like to output a report of each room and statistics of wall square footage, ceiling sq footage, amount of trim, etc.
  • It seems some tools that focus more on being used by estimators, contractors, etc have more capability here. I guess part of the issue is that a wall is really "part of" more than 1 room, but the wall surfaces are in 1 room. The project tree, for example, doesn't allow me to easily group wall or ceiling segments, so I could hide them at once. Overall, livehome3d feels like I can't organize it quite as well.
  • Organization and Reporting: It feels like other options better model the "room" concept and provide better statistics around each room.
  • Changing from an open to a closed door, or from a sliding door to a french door is more work than it could be.
  • Doors: I'd prefer that doors were handled a bit more like a special thing, rather than a bunch of independent models.
  • I had trouble making sure the model had a consistent material applied throughout the floor without impacting the walls. This issue is that if you apply your flooring material to that bottom surface, it seems to apply it to the wall of the opening as well. However, the opening also includes its own surface that occupies the floor. I leveraged the arched openings to implement this.
  • Wall Openings and Door materials/surfaces: We have multiple arched wall openings.
  • The limited set of youtube videos, limited documentation, and lack of official forums makes it hard to self-answer many of these issues. If I have misrepresented anything, please let me know. Some of these things feel like obvious issues that should already be tracked if there is anyone keeping tabs on this kind of stuff. I work in product management, so I wanted to at least try to communicate some of the areas where a product isn't as strong versus competitors.

This is a list of areas that I believe Live Home 3D could improve on and make their software a clearer choice. This isn't a detailed feature-for-feature comparison, as I found issues with pricing or features in the other options that led me to choose Live Home 3D.

The other tools I've used or evaluated are Planner 5D, FloorPlanCreator (most intuitive, but limited) android app, Sweet Home 3d, and RoomSketcher. Overall, I think it provides a lot of value with lifetime purchases and interoperability but did have odd struggles that I wanted to call out.

I just purchased Live Home 3D pro due to the ability to export and import to SketchUp for custom work, plus the black friday sale going on.
